A Study on the Buffer Capacity of Mixed Acid Salt Solution

Abstract
The buffer capacities of mixed acid salt solutions were estimated. Each of 0.07 M NaHSO4 and:O. 03111` Na2HPO4 solution, 0.14 M NaHSO4 and 0.06 M Na2HPO4 solution, 0.21 M NaHSO4 and 0.09 M Na2HPO4 solution in which concentrations of NaCl were kept constant at 0, 0.2, 0.4, b. 6, 0.8 and 1.0 M respectively, was titrated with 1 N HCI and also 1 N NaOH at 25¡ÆC.
The buffer capacities were- determined from the results of pH change measurement of each solution.
The values of buffer capacity of the above mixed acid salt solutions were found to be larger than that of a general buffer system. Increasing the concentration of the total constitution, it¢¥s buffer capacity was found to increase. However, as to the NaCl concentration, it showed that there was a optimum range. When the concentrations of NaHSO4, Na2HPO4 ¢¥and NaCl were 0.2 M, 0.09 M and 0.5M respectively, the buffer capacity at acidic side was found to be maximum at the constant value of 0.3300, whereas it¢¥s buffer capacity at alkaline side was found to be comparatively large as constant value 0.1941.
